Chef Andy Bates
Andy began his culinary adventures in a village pub at the tender age of 15. However, by the time he was 17, he was working in a Michelin star restaurant and by 19 he was refining his skills in France.
Andy then spent his twenties back in the UK, working with some of the best chefs in London; eventually leading him to start his own company selling British classics such as pies, scotch eggs, pasties, custard tarts and many more forgotten gems.
The company, of course, was called “Eat My Pies”, and Andy affectionately became known as ‘The Pie man’.
With the sudden boom in the street food culture, The Food Network Channel quickly spotted Andy’s talents and signed him up to front his own show.
Embarking on a whirlwind tour around the world, Andy filmed three highly successful series; Andy Bates Street Feasts, Andy Bates American Street Feasts and Andy Bates Brazilian Street Feasts.
The cameras followed him as he travelled across continents to explore the world of street food and find the stories and people behind the recipes. With the success of these shows, and a subsequent cookbook, Andy soon became a leading expert with regular appearances on the food circuit and consulting start up businesses.
So now in Miami, Andy has created another successful venture ‘The Avenue Miami’ with his grazing tables forming the centre piece of any party. Living by the quote, “You should always finish on a little bit of pudding”.
Andy compliments his love for food with his passion for life. Whether he’s in his beloved truck, on his paddle board, or in the kitchen, it is done with a smile and probably listening to Bowie.
Here’s what he has to say about our knives…
“Flint & Flame’s Rhineland knives are an absolute joy to work with and the most comfortable blade in my hand. Working 25 years in the culinary industry, these knives are perfectly balanced with ultimate control. They perform as outstanding as they look!”
